The AAC is delivering this day to educate high school students on aspects of becoming an AG VET, and learning about an animal carcass. Our one day Taster Days help students with their studies and career choices.
- Qualified practicing vet complete autopsy
- Examine part of digestive, circulatory and reproductive systems
- Discuss the function of each and how management practices can affect each
- Discover how pests and diseases can affect and how producers can prevent and cure
- Breakdown of carcass performed by qualified butcher - discover where cuts of meat come from
- Meat marketing - marbling, colour, fat, weight
- What meat cuts are used for
Delivered by
Dr Will Lucas- As well as being the Senior Veterinarian and Director at Crookwell Vet Hospital, Will has a Bachelor of Rural Science from the University of New England in Armidale. Delivering our AGVET taster day programs, he also brings his extensive practical experience on large sheep and cattle properties to the table, having worked on Hunthawang Station in Hillston, and overseeing a number of Egelabra Merino Stud properties too. Will lives in Crookwell with his partner Claire, their dog Ernie and cat Albert.

Not everyone’s cut out for the nine to five, and for many of your students life on a farm might as well be another planet, but it doesn’t have to be. This shearer tasting day provides an introduction to sheep shearing, and a career many of your students may not have contemplated before. Led by experienced Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) Instructors, this course is a hands-on, practical day that takes you through every step in the wool harvesting process.
