The course structure runs for 2 days. The trainer will be training the Electro Ejaculation method. The cost of the course is $3400, which includes the training and all required equipment.
Course Description
This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the processes and techniques involved in collecting semen for artificial insemination of livestock. Whether you’re a seasoned cattle breeder looking to fine-tune your skills or a newcomer to the world of livestock management, this course will provide you with the expertise and confidence to excel in bull semen collection.
Course Outcome

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to routinely collect semen for artificial insemination of livestock.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, work health and safety, animal welfare, biosecurity legislation, codes of practice and sustainability practices.
Working with entire male animals is an inherently dangerous activity. Individuals who work at this level must be thoroughly competent in all aspects of handling entire male animals.
No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this course.
Licensing/Regulatory Information
Orion Training holds Animal Ethics Committee approval throughout Australia based on our training practices that ensure the safe handling of livestock.
All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, health and safety in the workplace requirements, animal welfare legislative, regulatory and codes of practice requirements, and biosecurity practices.
Entry Requirements
Students will need to meet the following entry requirements:
- Completion of a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment;
- General knowledge and practical skills gained through vocational experience in farming; and
- Access to a computer (device) and the internet to complete the online training component.

Morphology & Motility course
The Semen Morphology & Motility course will be an additional day to Collect Semen Course. During this course you will learn how to use a light microscope using various sample types. Successful completion results in a Statement of Attainment for MSL973028 Perform Microscopic Examination. The cost of this course is $1,600.

Course Outcome
MSL973028 – Perform microscopic examination
(Unit Release 1 – 20 Dec 2022)
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge to set up a light microscope for optimum resolution, to prepare routine samples and to observe, identify and report sample characteristics.
This unit of competency applies to laboratory assistants and technicians in all industry sectors. The unit of competency covers limited interpretation and analysis of results. Troubleshooting of equipment and procedures is not required.
Licensing/Regulatory Information
Orion Training (RTO Code: 30915) holds Animal Ethics Committee (AEC) approval in every state where our courses are delivered. This is based on our training practices that ensure the safe handling of livestock in accordance with individual state regulations, legislation and standards.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. However, regulations and/or external accreditation requirements for laboratory operations exist, so local requirements should be checked. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must also be applied.
